These schmucks are offering a bribe to the professor for using their text. It had to happen, but students in courses using their books ought to be extremely irate -- you should feel the same way if your physician took a bribe from a pharmaceutical company for giving you a prescription. Here is the text of their email:

Subject: Principles of Microeconomics Text for Today's Students

Dear Professor [Recipient Suppressed]:

The National Social Science Press is a faculty venture to provide cost effective texts to students in a digital format along with access to a password protected website and a complimentary printed digital text supplement for substantially less than traditional texts.

Bahram Adrangi has assembled a group of authors who have written a timely textbook on the principles of microeconomics that provides a comprehensive coverage of theory and application of topics related to consumers, firms, markets, and the role of government in the economy. The text offers examples of how current issues and policies may be discussed and evaluated employing economic theory and concepts. The text also provides Excel-based as well as web-based applications that will facilitate students' learning of the topics of microeconomics.

We have gotten positive reviews from economics instructors as well as students in the microeconomics classes.

We would like you to consider this package of digital text, password protected website, and complimentary printed digital text supplement for your spring classes.

In addition, we are hiring faculty and department and division members to test market this text and are offering up to $8,000 to participate in this process.

We faculty feel that it is time to bring students into the technology of the 21st century and at the same time same them a great deal of money over traditional texts. I hope that you will participate in this faculty venture through adoption of this text for the spring and/or participating in our test marketing program.

If you wish a sample package of text and printed digital text supplement, please send us your name and address. If you wish to participate in our test marketing program, also include the number of students you have in your spring classes.

We look forward to hearing from you.
